How do I curl my hair for cheerleading?

I have curly hair like REALLY it snaps when i comb through it. I got a straight perm about 6 months ago now the roots are growing out curly. I have to curl my hair with rollers in a high ponytail. Do I straighten it first and then curl it with rollers or do I curl it with it already curly??

P.S. what products can I use for it to be smooth and for the curls to stay? Thanxx =]How do I curl my hair for cheerleading?
I agree. Stay away from the straightener and roll it curly. Also make sure you are starting with your hair completely dry and that all of the product in your hair has dried before removing the rollers otherwise the curls won't hold. I can't possibly add anything to the above directions though, they are perfect.

When I would have to curl my hair, the whole team would get together the night before the competition and roll each others. It makes it fun instead of having to stress out about it and everybody's hair always looked a lot more uniform than when we did it separately. If your team doesn't do anything like that, it may be helpful to do it with a couple friends anyway, especially if you're a first-timer.

Also I have to suggest this because I hated rolling my own hair and this was such a lifesaver in high school. Cheer curls are a great shortcut if you don't want to deal with doing it yourself.

This is what I used:

and this one looks pretty good too:

They use a drawstring that makes it completely secure so you never have to worry about any deductions from the thing falling out.

Just another alternative and ugh, I can't say enough here about those- I recommend, recommend, recommend!!

Hope this helps =]

Good luck!!How do I curl my hair for cheerleading?
I have the same hair as you! lol it's really curly but i got it chemically straightened. I always straightened it before curling, so that it's nice and smooth, not frizzy.

But to use rollers:

- curl your hair the night before.

-put your hair in a high ponytail, you should see it if your looking straight into a mirror. If you have to wear a big bow,, you might want to put it in now, before you curl your hair. they can be kind of hard to put on around all of the curls later.

-take a small section of hair and cover it with hair gel and spray a little hairspray. Then roll it up in the rollers and get it as close to the ponytail as you can. Make sure not to use too much gel, or they wont dry!

-do this until all of your hair is curled.

- use a blow dryer to dry them.. you wont be able to dry them completely.

-wrap a bandana around it while you sleep so it doesn't get messy.

- in the morning.. make sure they're dry before you unroll them!!!! if they're not dry, use a blow dryer until they are.

- take out the rollers and hairspray them so they stay. they will be somewhat crunchy and hard,, but they curls will stay!

GOOD LUCK =]
~~NO..Do NOT straighten it first...allow it to dry Naturally...when it is dry, pull it up into a High Ponytail. separate each piece to be curled individually as you go along.Using a Large Barrel Curling Iron, start at the Base of the hair (closest to the hair band) smooth hair downward with curling iron then wrap hair around Iron...do this over and over until you have Gorgeous Curls...Lightly Spray with a Hard Hold Hairspray...This is exactly how I always curled my 2 Daughters hair for games.~~
Make sure you havent JUST showered or JUST straightened your hair right before. Use an anti-frizz serum and i'd recommend leave in curlers you wear to sleep. Then your curls won't die or loose their bounce.
